Hundreds filled the streets of downtown Charleston Monday for a spirited celebration of the national holiday commemorating the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The annual parade hosted by the YWCA of Greater Charleston started at Burke High School on President Street and made its way down King Street to Marion Square. Jubilant crowds lined the streets yelling "Happy MLK day!" to each other and to the parade participants who passed by.
"I am happy to be here today with everybody," said Madelyne Paulk as her friends gathered around her. "I think it's a reunion to remember the man who helped us all come together as a community."
