Patrick Swayze's B-day Party

When: Wed., Aug. 20, 9 p.m. 2014

Looking back it’s hard to know what we loved the most about Patrick Swayze. Was it his feathered hair? His soulful baby blues? His smooth dance moves? Or simply the way he could work some clay on a pottery wheel? It’s too hard to decide. Thankfully, the folks at the Tin Roof throw an annual birthday party so we can celebrate all of P. Swayze’s greatness. Like any good party, Erin Tyler, owner of the Tin Roof, has scheduled numerous activities to keep party-goers entertained. There’ll be Swayze-themed drinks, snacks, trivia, prizes, and games. Those games use arguably the actors two most famous roles as inspiration. The couples Play-Doh molding contest has teams of two pair up to finish a sculpture during the duration of “Unchained Melody,” a la Ghost. While “Throw Baby in the corner” has contestants throwing a baby doll into a corner — think of it as their version of pin the tail on the donkey. Jennifer Grey would not be pleased. Lily Slay and Rex Stickel will riff on Dirty Dancing in a Mystery Science Theater 3000-style screening. “We have a lot of fun and unique events at Tin Roof. This is one of my favorites. A fellow bartender and I came up with the idea for this event out of our love for Patrick Swayze and to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer,” Tyler says. “We’ve had new additions each year, and the event has become popular with our patrons and newcomers. The birthday party is a fun way to celebrate an icon from our generation. We are Swayze Crazy at Tin Roof.”
