Piccolo Fiction Open

When: Sat., June 2, 5 p.m. 2012

Five minutes in heaven. The Piccolo Fiction Open is Piccolo's longest-running event devoted to fiction. The PFO features five South Carolina writers who will present five-minute short-short stories in the Blue Bicycle Books courtyard.

Alley allegiances. Besides their brevity, each of these stories has one thing in common: They start with the phrase "I ducked into the alley."

The literati. This year's PFO quintet features some big local literary names. There's Jonathan Sanchez, owner of Blue Bike and two-time winner of the S.C. Fiction Project, and bestselling author Beth Webb Hart. Stephanie Hunt is a contributing editor at Skirt! Magazine and SoMA Review, and Malinda McCollum is a Pushcart Prize winner who's been published in the Paris Review. And lastly, 2009 College of Charleston grad Ryan Graudin is publishing her debut novel, Luminance Hour, next summer.
