Big Dicktionary is a two-person, long-form improvisational comedy team composed of Timmy Finch and John Brennan. Doppelganger! is Charleston's only all-improvised rock show, where the audience shout out the “titles” their favorite "songs" and have them performed for the first and last time ever. Part of Piccolo Fringe at Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
Über-cool local comedic improv
As part of Piccolo's Fringe events, two veteran Charleston improvisational acts — Big Dicktionary and Doppelgänger — perform a two-fer show for two nights in prime time at the American Theater on King Street.
Naughtiness pervades the dialogue and songs
Timmy Finch and John Brennan — both longtime characters in the Theatre 99 gallery of stars — never know what they'll be squawking about on stage at any Big Dicktionary show. They haul out a very big dictionary, invite a member of the audience to randomly pick a word, and immediately start riffing off the word at a breakneck pace, often with saucy results. The audience gets to chime in on the Doppelgänger sets, too, shouting out potential song titles for singer/guitarists Lee Lewis and Jason Cooper to deal with on the spot. In the vein of Tenacious D, the Smothers Brothers, and Flight of the Conchords, they twist and squeeze amusing and rockin' stuff out of bizarre suggestions.
It's a classic co-bill ..
but expect the unexpected. Both acts will have new material in their heads and both are quick on their feet with the sudden twists and detours that come their way.
