Piccolo Spoleto Intern Block Party: Anchored Down in Charlestowne

When: Sat., June 2, 6-10 p.m. 2012

Smooth operators. Every year, Piccolo Spoleto depends on its college interns to make sure that the festival runs smoothly. As a celebration of all their hard work, they get to throw their own block party in Marion Square on June 2. They'll have live music by local bands, a variety of food vendors, and lots of games.

Mini music fest. This year's interns are putting major emphasis on the music. They've selected local groups Old You, Folkgrass, and Rustic Remedy to perform their own renditions of folk, soul, and blues-rock — sounds that always draw a native crowd in Charleston. But one performer, McKenzie Eddy, is far from local. She's an up-and-coming hip-hop artist from Brooklyn who was recently featured in Elle magazine for her eclectic style.

The Social scene. The block party is a free event where you can bring all your friends and family, with enough food and music to go around. Plus, Marion Square is right in the center of Charleston's bustling nightlife scene, so you can grab a few drinks after the block party with all the new friends you'll meet.
