If you've got a supple wrist and $5, head on out to the Recovery Room on Sat. Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. and put your skills to the test as the Charleston Pinball Federation sponsors Charleston's first-ever pinball tournament.
The most rock 'n' roll of all bar games, pinball is gaining momentum in Charleston, rolling out from the shady, beer-sloshed corners of the city's dive bars and into the spotlight. “Four machines will be present and they will represent the different stages of pinball development,” says Tobias Denney, the tournament coordinator.
Sanctioned by the International Flipper Pinball Association (yes, that's a real thing), the tournament is also sponsored by Charleston Gamerooms, the Recovery Room, and Pabst Blue Ribbon, so you can expect PBR swag giveaways as well as plenty of cheap, frosty beer specials.
With entry fees making up the cash prizes and trophies for the winners, the event is “open to novices and silverball junkies alike,” Denney says.
