Oyster Roasts, City Picks

Pork, Pints, and Pearls

When: Sat., Feb. 23, 3-7 p.m. 2013

Who says you can’t get fancy for a pig and oyster roast? Windwood Family Services, which provides behavioral health services for families and operates a group home for boys, is throwing a family-friendly bash that’s one part swanky and one part country. “When we started this event we wanted to set it apart, so when everyone enters they’re offered a pig nose or a fake pearl necklace,” says Windwood’s Kristin Powers. “Even if you’re in jeans, you throw on those pearls and it kind of dresses you up a bit.” And naturally, the kids love running around oinking at each other through their pink noses. Besides the roasts, the event will feature live music by the Travis Allison Band, face painting and games for the kids, and plenty of door prizes and drawings throughout the afternoon. “The best part is that families are able to come out and share good food, good drink, and camaraderie with their neighbors,” Powers says. Proceeds will help Windwood’s child clients, many of whom have had troubling childhoods.
