Hard-working alt-country/Americana rockers Possum Jenkins have been slinging their twangy, guitar-driven, Southern-fried blend of rock and country for years in the Tarheel State. Nathan Turner, Jared Church, David Willis, Brent Buckner, and David Brewer first came together five years ago in Boone, N.C., during their final year at Appalachian State University. They described their original material as a mix of the “timeless mountain music of Appalachia, the compelling alt-country of East Nashville and Austin, a touch funky Memphis soul, and a helping of unabashed Southern rock.” Now based in Winston-Salem, the quintet regularly tours through the Southeast. Possum Jenkins performs two shows on the IOP this week in support their new album Collection of Bad Habits. On Friday, they headline at 10 p.m. after an opening set from Cory Hunt. On Saturday, they perform a special early set from 6-9 p.m. for free.
