Pour House Mural Competition Live Painting and Music

When: Nov. 1-8 2015

Ever wonder where all that groovy artwork on the walls of the Pour House came from? For the past five years, the Pour House has held an annual mural competition where artists have free reign over the venue to create a masterpiece and possibly win prizes. Past artists include Patchy Whiskey, Ishmael, and Douglas Panzone. This year’s competition has two themes — “Musical Genres” and “Building Community Through Music.” Out of the numerous applicants, 10 local artists were selected whose work best fit into these categories. From Nov. 1-8, these artists will be hard at work painting inside and outside walls during musical performances. “The music the week of the painting is top notch. You’ll be able to see live painting at the early deck show or inside during our main stage shows as well,” says Pour House marketing director Jessica Wilson. Once the artists have completed their murals, guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite addition to the venue from November 9-15 in person or online. The three artists to get the most votes will be awarded with prizes. Wilson says, “Seeing the formation of the art throughout the week is our favorite part. One day you look at an artist’s design and it looks like it’s going in one direction. The next day, it’s taken on a whole new life.”
