The creation of good chamber music in Charleston has a long and storied history. Much of the recent part of that story comes from the embouchure of Tacy Edwards. While performing with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra as piccoloist and flutist, she has also worked behind the scenes on several board positions for the CSO League. She teaches flute at the College of Charleston and has published two flute method books. She has even invented and patented flute accessories. Edwards was also the flutist for the Chamber Music Society of Charleston.

Her newest venture into the intimate realm of chamber music, the Charleston Virtuosi, brings together not only musicians from the area but also colleagues from afar. From the CSO come concertmaster Yuriy Bekker, cellist Norbert Lewandowski, violist Ruth Goldsmith, and Edwards' recording colleague, guitarist Christopher Teves. This already impressive group of musicians will be joined by College of Charleston pianist Robin Zemp, Louisville Symphony Orchestra oboist Trevor Johnson, and bassoonist Dong-Yun Kwon of South Korea's Bu-san Philharmonic.

This performance promises to showcase the variety of experiences that are a hallmark of any Spoleto season and boil them down to the rich, intimate roux of chamber music. Slated for performance are a fantasy on Rossini's William Tell, José Lezcano's Postcards, and a trio by local composer Trevor Weston, Images, a collaboration with painter Arn Strasser that captures his colorful abstractions.

Composer Edward Hart's travels to Argentina, Portugal, and Mexico inspired a work for septet titled Three Latin Rivers, connecting traditions such as tango and fado, and fitting in quite nicely with the title of this program.
