Pull out your costumes and nunchaku for the College of Charleston’s Anime Association and Tabletop Gaming Club’s fifth annual Pro-Con anime convention. This student-run convention will include a variety of events and activities, from prize raffles to gaming tournaments to anime screenings. Several guests will be speak at the event, including Shelby Sessler of Shelbeanie Cosplay, as well as podcasters Taylor Blumberg and Shaun Rosado. A wide selection of panels will include: Makeup 101, How to be a Water Bender, Why Your Favorite Anime Sucks, and The Best Comics You’re Not Reading. Dressing up isn’t required, but it is certainly encouraged, with the cosplay (“costume play”) contest being perhaps the con’s most popular event. “People put a lot of effort into [hand-making] their costumes,” says Mackenzie Kohler, treasurer of CofC’s Anime Association. “It’s amazing to see all the work people can put into creating their own interpretations of characters.” Other events taking place include a Japanese fashion show, a vocaloid concert, and a villain-themed ball.
