CARS: STALLED
New Cars guitarist Elliot Easton suffered a terrible injury to his left clavicle while en route from a show on Mon. June 5. Despite his efforts to soldier on, doctors demanded that he undergo surgery last week, which brought the Blondie/New Cars tour to a complete halt. The concert scheduled for Sun. June 18 at the N. Charleston Coliseum was officially canceled on Tues. June 13. Ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.

LOCAL 'SHOWCASE'
Program director Dave Rossi calls it "Charleston's first-ever local music showcase." Whatever it is, 96 Wave and the Windjammer have selected seven local rock bands from a pile of recent CD submissions to play at the IOP club in front of A&R reps, biz insiders, and agents. The running order includes (in order of appearance) Rik Cribb & The Problems, Divided We Fall, The Fire Apes, Number One Contender, Red Handed, Black Eyed Susan, and Steve Hit Mike. Starting at 8 p.m. on Thurs. June 22, each band will hit the stage for a 20-minute set. Admission is $5 at the door, 18 and up welcome.

PIPES A'PIPING ON THE IOP
Local AC/DC tribute band T.N.T. welcomes special guest bagpipers from the Citadel Pipe Corps to the Windjammer stage on Thurs. June 29 for an authentic rendition of the 1976 anthem, "It's A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll."

SHAGGIN' INTHE CAROLINAS
Myrtle Beach disc jockey John Hook (a.k.a. "'Fessa" John Hook) will be in town with copies of his new 128-page paperback book, Shagging in the Carolinas, released this week by Arcadia Publishing. Look for Hook's "book signing event" and shagging party at J.B Pivots Beach Club on Fri. June 23 from 6-8 p.m. DJ Chuck Clodfeltter will be spinning classic beach tunes. Admission is free.

CRACKIN' IN WEST ASHLEY
Local record store Monster Music & Movies (946 Orleans Rd.) welcomes Cracker on Sat. June 24 for an "in-store" performance at 3 p.m. The band is on the road behind a new album titled Greenland (see Music Board). Call Monster at 571-4657 or check www.catsmusic.com for more info. —TBL
