Coming up at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach: Carolina songsmith Edwin McCain and his band headline on Thurs. Aug. 24; the "98.5 Kiss FM Super Jam" gets funky on Fri. Aug. 25; Philly's G. Love & Special Sauce crank out the soul while Ga.-based electro-groove quartet STS9 get weird on Sat. Aug. 26; and Head Automatica share the stage with Rock Kills Kid and Men Women & Children on Sun. PRE-CHAZZFEST GIG

Festival organizers from the Charleston Music & Heritage Festival (a.k.a. "Chazzfest"), set for Sat. Sept. 16 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island, have scheduled a "sneak preview" promotional gig for this weekend. Local alt-country/rock act Cary Ann Hearst Band will perform in the outdoor courtyard of the Simons Center for the Arts on the CofC campus (54 St. Phillip St.) on Fri. Aug. 25 from 5-7 p.m. The band is one of two dozen acts performing on four stages in and around Tennis Center. Check out www.chazzfest.com for more.

FEMMES TURN 25

The Plex, 96 Wave, and the City Paper present a gem of a show next month as the Violent Femmes – currently on their 25th Anniversary Tour – are set to perform at The Plex on Sun. Sept 10. The Milwaukee-based "folk-punk" act were a college radio staple through the 1980s and '90s. The lineup features founding members singer/guitarist Gordon Gano, bassist Brian Ritchie, and brush-wielding drummer Victor DeLorenzo. Additional percussionist John Sparrow is expected on stage as well. Beaufort metal band Souls Harbor continue to promote their new disc, Burning Souls with an early-morning acoustic set on the Tom Bolt Show on 98X on Fri. Aug. 25, followed by an in-store set later that day at Monster Music & Movies at 2:30 p.m. On Sun. Aug. 27, they hit the stage opening for Staind at the at Blackbaud Stadium. On Fri.
