Quarterly Beer Classes

When: Mondays, 6:30 p.m. Continues through June 23 2014

Society — and advertisers — have held on to the notion that beer is a guys’ drink for far too long. Edmund’s Oast wants to change that, and they’re doing it with some history during the next installment of their beer classes. “We’ll be going over the history of brewing. Women primarily handled all of the brewing until it turned into a commercial venture. Girly beer doesn’t exist, in fact Imperial Stout, a super dark and strong beer was made at the behest of Catherine the Great,” explains Brandon Plyler of Edmund’s Oast. “We will talk about the roles that women have played in the South Carolina/local brewing scene as well. And we will taste beers that women have had a significant role in making from four different countries.” The second course looks at charcuterie and beer, the third deals with cheese and beer, and the final class will be all about sour beer.
