West Ashley record shop Monster Music & Movies has a ton of fun stuff going down on Saturday as part of the nationwide Record Store Day celebration. Local rock quartet Company, one of the nine bands on Monster’s in-store concert roster, will perform at 4 p.m. in support of the release of a brand-new album titled Dear America (Exit Stencil Recordings), a lush and confident follow up to their 2011 debut Holy City. Singer, guitarist, and songwriter Brian Hannon has led the group through several lineup adjustments — including the untimely death of original drummer Kelly Grant — and minor name changes over the years (from “Ko” to “Co.” and beyond). He and his bandmates tracked Dear America at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, N.C. The latest compositions fluctuate between the gritty and the beautiful. Some new songs come across like a garage band reimagining of long lost Pavement or Guided by Voices demos, while others have a twisty pop cleverness that’s surprisingly sophisticated and jangly.
