Rethinking Expectations: Efforts to Improve the Local Justice System in Charleston

When: Fri., Nov. 18, 5-6 p.m. 2016

Charleston County’s Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) was awarded $2.25 million and technical assistance from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Challenge, a national effort to change how America thinks about and uses jails. The award comes on the heels of an intensive effort to increase understanding of how the Charleston community uses its jail, who enters and is released from it, how long they stay, and for what reasons. Kristy Danford will walk us though this data and undergoing reform efforts.
