The City Gallery at Waterfront Park recently announced that its next exhibit will feature Washington, D.C.-based artist Rik Freeman. The show, called The Chittlin Circuit Review, will include 25 paintings exploring the history of blues in segregated America.

According to the press release, "Freeman's paintings follow the history of the blues through cotton fields, juke joints, railroads, and jazz clubs." The paintings are inhabited by Freeman's vivid fictional characters like jazz musicians Mud Paw Willie and Critter Gitter. The exhibit's opening reception is Fri. Jan. 29 from 6-8 p.m., and Freeman will give a lecture on Sat. Jan. 30. Call (843) 958-6484 for more info.
