Rock the Nation: Music Unlimited

When: Fri., Jan. 30 2009

Founded in 2006 as “the Lowcountry’s first school of rock,” Music Unlimited offers private instruction by some of the Charleston’s finest musicians and instructors (guitars, drums, keys, vocals, etc.). Led by veteran rock guitarist Chris Holly, they host the “MU Rocks Summer Camp” for teenage students who want to learn more about playing in bands, writing songs, stage performance, and other aspects of the biz. This week, the organization presents a two-night, student/teacher concert event billed as “Rock the Nation.” Some of the dedicated MU instructors include guitarists John Madden, Eddie Bush, Donnie Polk, Josh Kaler, John Smith, Mike Grimm, Matt Chase, and Collin Madden, guitarist/pianist Aaron Levy, vocalist Elise Testone, and drummer Lloyd Nyberg, among many others. Many of these performers teach and work with Music Unlimited throughout the year. Their last big event at the Jammer was a “We Save the Music” concert in August with Bush, Kaler, members of White Rhino, Skyline Trio, and several special guests. —T. Ballard Lesemann
