"Rock the River" w/ The Unknown Hinson, Steel Petals

When: Fri., July 17 2009

Friday at the Music Farm finds a wild benefit show and exposition for the hot Lowcountry Highrollers — a skater-owned and operated flat-track roller derby league based in Charleston — featuring the “king of Western troubadours” Unknown Hinson and local band Steel Petals. The Lowcountry Highrollers (lowcountryhighrollers.com) is an all-female team aiming to promote “sportswomanship,” female empowerment, and community consciousness through activities, events, and charity involvement. Based in Charlotte, The Unknown Hinson may seem like a fang-toothed, gun-toting redneck ghoul, but the singer-guitarist and his band are more interested in twangy rock ’n’ roll than actual macabre mischief. Hinson’s work on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim half-half hour program Squidbillies (portraying the character “Early Kyler”) is well celebrated.
