There are three topics of conversation that people generally avoid in bars if they want to keep the peace: money, religion, and politics. But on Saturday we encourage you break at least one part of this rule when Rock the Vote Charleston! takes over the Pour House. Enjoy live music while learning and talking about the upcoming midterm election in a non-controversial way. “We’re really trying to reach the college kids because they’re the ones that won’t be able to vote with their out-of-state licenses,” says Brad Walker of the Pour House.” If you don’t know a whole lot about the candidates or the political system in general, don’t be too embarrassed to ask. The City of Charleston is sponsoring a booth providing information about voter registration and requirements, whether you’re from out of state or you just don’t know about the procedure (we won’t tell). If you need to register to vote, bring your photo ID; if you’re from out of state, also bring a bill or a bank statement with your name on it. Runaway Gin’s Andy Greenberg will be there hosting, and farm-to-fork cuisine will be available from The Lot starting at 5:30 p.m. The live music begins on the deck at 6 p.m.
