Sports enthusiasts and party people alike can enjoy Rugged Maniac, a 5K obstacle course that travels through Boone Hall before ending in a big celebration. This is the fifth annual Rugged Maniac tour, with the race crew setting up in over 20 cities across the country from March to November — and the obstacle course has only grown in size and complexity. “There’s always room for improvement,” says Rob Dickens, the COO of Rugged Maniac. “And we work hard to make each year’s event even better than the last.” This year, Rugged Maniac is rumored to have trampolines, subterranean passageways, and a water slide. While running maniacs test out the course, spectators can participate in activities surrounding the race, like pie-eating, stein-hoisting, arm-wrestling, oyster-shucking, dancing, a mechanical bull, and an inflatable obstacle course for children. Harpoon Brewery will be on tap at the fest’s beer garden.
