Run Dan Run

When: Sat., Jan. 24 2009

“Playing acoustic has been a new venture for us,” says singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Dan McCurry, the soft-spoken frontman for local indie-pop combo Run Dan Run. With drummer Nick Jenkins and violinist Erin McKinley, McCurry celebrates the release of a lo-fi, six-song EP titled 27 Coming St. on Saturday with an acoustic performance at the City Lights Coffeeshop (141 Market St.). Tracked last October, it’s a follow-up to last year’s more amplified Basic Mechanics. “The songs were done in one or two takes one Sunday evening when Ash was in town," says the frontman. "Since he left town, the normal rock show wasn’t working well, and we tried a few different things between Erin, Nick, and myself and found that playing acoustic was the dynamic that works best for us right now.” RDR will continue a weekly series of shows at City Lights through February. The gigs start at 8 p.m. and there’s no cover charge. Catch ’em before they embark on a tour (by train!) to N.Y.C. —T. Ballard Lesemann (photo by Emily Osborne)
