When: Sun., Sept. 21, 12-3 p.m. 2014
When considering the possibility of a zombie apocalypse, questions tend to arise about what type of role one would play. Would you survive as a human or become infected and live an undead life eating humans? At Boone Hall’s Running Scared 5K, you can register as a zombie or a runner to put your apocalyptic instincts to the test. Runners will not be timed, but will have to dodge hordes of feasting zombies attempting to steal their life flags. Zombies will receive a gory makeover and acting class in order to perfect the moaning, stumbling technique that will scare the tiny shorts off the runners. Spectator tickets are also available for those who would rather not get fake blood on them. There will be optional physical and mental challenges placed throughout the course to earn extra life flags, but they aren’t for the faint of heart. “I don’t want to give anything away, but they could really challenge some people’s phobias,” says Trey Smith, owner and operator of Dream Vision Entertainment Productions. All entry fees include admittance to the Zombie Bash party, which will be a graveyard smash with food and adult beverages available for purchase and a DJ to help you dance like it’s the end of the world. Hold on to those life flags, because runners with extra ones at the end of the race can cash them in for additional raffle tickets to win prizes from sponsoring businesses.
Price: $60/runner, feasting zombie, $35/zombie horde, $15/spectator at door, $10/spectator adv.
