Saturday Night Fish Fry

When: Sat., June 12, 8 p.m.-12 a.m. 2010

Piccolo’s annual Blues on the Dock series on Bowens Island (at 1870 Bowens Island Road, off of Folly Road) has already presented some of the best blues and roots music of the season, including a steamy set from Bob Margolin last weekend. The scenery from the dock stage behind the restaurant is gorgeous, and the atmosphere is rustic and welcoming. This Saturday evening, an all-local roster of cool cats plan to swap licks and lyrics at the Saturday Night Fish Fry from 8 p.m. to midnight. Organized by longtime Charleston-based vocalist Smoky Weiner, the lineup include’s sax player Louie Dixson and his band, singer/pianist Ed “Porkchop” Meyer and guests, and Weiner’s own rockin’ combo The Hot Links. It’s a great opportunity for Spoletians to get away from the commotion on the peninsula and catch some authentic Lowcountry jams. —T. Ballard Lesemann
