Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ consistently puts on killer blues shows. This week, they host Nashville-based electric guitarist and songwriter Scott Holt, a veteran player, singer, and bandleader with massive chops and a cool vibe. Holt and his band — bassist Dan Eubanks, drummer Marshal Weaver, and keyboardist Joe “Lightning” Peterson — provided one of the highlight’s of this year’s Lowcountry Blues Bash, and they make sure to visit Charleston several times a year. “People have always embraced us, ever since we started playing in Charleston,” says Holt. “It’s a very music-oriented group of people who come out to have a good time. They make us feel like playing, so we enjoy it.” Holt’s aggressive style, phrasing, and beautifully distorted tone resemble those of Buddy Guy (with whom Holt played for years) and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. The group headlines the West Ashley Home Team behind their new disc, Kudzu.
