Second Annual Great Charleston Pop Off

When: Sun., Sept. 7, 12-5 p.m. 2014

There are a few things that make an event a not-to-be-missed affair for us: puppies, bubbles, beer, and free popsicles. And King of Pops promises three of these — we’re still holding out hope on bubbles. The second annual Great Charleston Pop Off takes over Holy City Brewing in celebration of the end of summer. While one can try to make a meal out of popsicles alone, we don’t advise it. Luckily, Hello My Name is ... BBQ, Outta My Huevos, and Charleston Choo will be on hand to make sure you can get some eats to go with your desserts. The dog- and kid-friendly party will have slip ‘n’ slides, live music, cornhole, and jump castles — provided by the City Paper photographer Jonathan Boncek’s Charleston Fun Factory. All proceeds benefit The Green Heart Project, a farm-to-school program that pairs volunteers with students to build and maintain an urban garden while reinforcing classroom curriculum. “We reached out to The Green Heart Project last year as we felt our company mission really matched up well with the vision of Green Heart,” says King of Pops’ Andy McCarthy. “We work with most of the local farmers in the area and strive to instill as many sustainable practices as possible with our company. We love the idea of teaching kids the importance of farming and sustainable agriculture.”
