A wise man once said “Live every week like it’s Shark Week.” Or maybe we should say a “once wise” man once said, since Tracy Morgan’s kind of homophobic. Still, Shark Week is probably the best week of the year, and besides all of the nutty specials you’ll see on the Discovery Channel starting July 31, you can enjoy plenty of real-life events — with real-life sharks — at the S.C. Aquarium. Their festivities begin with the Shark, Rattle and Roll Party, a night of live music (by Emily Hearn, Occasional Milkshake, and Ten Toes Up), dancing, drink specials, and food on July 29. From July 29-Aug. 7, guests of the aquarium can enjoy shark-related activities like dive shows, interactive stations, and a “sharkeology” dig. And it all wraps up with a free screening of Jaws, because, you know, mechanical sharks from the ’70s are just as scary as the real thing. You could probably also go to one of our local beaches and try to meet a shark up close and personal, but we’d have to advise against that.
