She Makes Comics

A special event featuring a pop up comic shop from Park Circle Comics, Kristen Solecki and Christine Brunson. She Makes Comics tells the little ­known story of women in comics, highlighting the contributions they have made to the medium since the turn of the 20th century. It features interviews with such prominent figures as historian Trina Robbins, Captain Marvel writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, underground comics artist Joyce Farmer, and former DC Comics publisher Jenette Kahn, among dozens of others. A Q&A will follow the film with two female illustrators: Kristen Solecki graduated from the Illustration program at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and now resides in Charleston. She creates art for various print publications such as Skirt Magazine and Charleston City Paper. Christine Brunson is a Charleston-based writer and colorist for various published works including the webcomic Undead Norm.
