Calling all uploaders, tweeters, wall-posters, and photo-filter fanatics. Social media has turned so many of us into addicts, and it only makes sense to make a holiday out of it. The City of Charleston and Major Joe Riley have declared June 30 to be the city’s Official Social Media Day — which to us, just sounds like an excuse to party. On June 30, The Alley will be holding a celebration where they will be showcasing the best photographs from around the Charleston area that were hashtagged #chsYOU — so start using the hashtag “#chsYOU” in your pictures of sunsets at the beach, the Ravenel Bridge, imposing church steeples, and all things Charleston. At The Alley, they’ll hand out awards for the Most Spirited, Most “Charleston” Picture, Most Creative Use of the Hashtag “chsYOU”, Charleston Foodies, and Selfie with a Charleston Celebrity pictures. While we locals and lovers of the Holy City have the chance to unite via hashtag and stalk each other’s photos, the event gives us the opportunity to connect in person, drink some beers, eat some food, and have a good time with half-off apps, $12 buckets, $10 pitchers, $2 PBRs, and $4 Fireball or Rumple shots.
