Soft as Nails

When: Feb. 25-March 25 2011

If you are an art lover that is looking for something besides downtown Charleston galleries filled with traditional landscapes and sunsets, then visit the opening of Erin Eckman’s Soft as Nails exhibit at Greenway Studio. The self-taught artist describes her style as a combination of realism, expressionism, surrealism, and the abstract. Born in Washington state, Eckman lived in Atlanta before she migrated to Charleston. “We moved when my husband opened a new branch of his business,” she says. “I was honestly relieved to get away from the smog. I love the landscape of Charleston and being so close to the ocean.” Eckman has brought a unique style of art to the Charleston area. “I like to experiment and try something new. My inspiration can come from an odd conversation or a book I’ve read,” she says. “I don’t think there is a right or wrong in art.” Eckman’s exhibit will feature new art and a retrospective of her work from the past nine years. The exhibit will run until March 25.
