Sol Driven Train w/ The Shane Pruitt Band, Danielle Howle, Cary Ann Hearst

When: Fri., May 14 2010

This week, diligently nomadic local rock ensemble Sol Driven Train celebrates the official release of Believe, their fourth independently produced studio collection. The groove-minded, highly proficient quintet — singer-guitarist Joel Timmons, bassist Rusty Cole, drummer Wes Powers, guitarist and horn player Ward Buckheister, and sax player/percussionist Russell Clarke — tracked the reggae-tinged collection with engineer Russell Andrews at Hillcreek Studios in Candler, N.C., and mixed the songs with assistance from engineer Jeff Hodges at Charleston Sound. Special guest vocalists and musicians in the collection include singers Cary Ann Hearst and Danielle Howle, trumpeter Cameron Harder-Handel, string player Roger Bellow, and organist Jim Peterman, among others. It’s their first studio disc featuring Powers on drums. The CD release show at the Pour House includes opening sets from Spartanburg’s Shane Pruitt Band and Howle and Hearst. —T. Ballard Lesemann
