When: Sun., Aug. 28, 12 p.m. 2016
The third annual South Caroline Reggae Jerk & Wine Festival will feature everything its name suggests: wine tastings, jerk meat, and reggae music. Jah, man. A Jamaican chef will be on hand to give cooking demonstrations and there will be food available for purchase from several Caribbean vendors. There will also be a jerk taste off, featuring that super special meat cooked in the authentic Jamaican way. Jerk-style food, for those who don’t know, is any type of meat that’s marinated in a blend of Jamaican spices like mace, Jamaican pimento, and Scotch Bonnet peppers, and cooked over hot coals. A portion of the proceeds from the event benefit Healthy Lifestyle Network, a nonprofit that teaches kids self-management skills in Charleston and Jamaica.
