Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers: The Glass House

When: Fri., Sept. 10, 8 p.m. 2010

Throughout 2010 and into the next year, the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and the Center for the Documentary at the College of Charleston will play host to the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. The tour brings directors, writers, and producers, along with their work, to various venues throughout the Southeast. The series will open with The Glass House, directed by Hamid Rahmanian. This documentary follows Iranian girls as they strive to raise themselves up from Tehran’s lower class by attending a one-of-a-kind rehabilitation center. After the film, Rahmanian will discuss his work and answer questions. The Halsey previously hosted the tour between 2007 and 2009. “After a year of focusing our efforts towards internal programs and settling into our new space, we jumped at the opportunity to participate in the 2010-2011 SCTIF,” says Program Coordinator Rebecca Silberman in an e-mail. “This program aligns perfectly with the Halsey’s mission to provide a direct experience with contemporary art in all media. Each film comes with its filmmakers and the audience gets to interact with them. It’s a great dynamic that we’re honored to bring to the community.” —Susan Cohen
