When: Sat., Oct. 15, 5-11 p.m. 2011
The Southern Spirit Festival is an all-evening showcase designed as a benefit concert for the Windwood Farm Home for Children in Awendaw. The organization provides residential support to boys throughout South Carolina who’ve been abused or neglected. The roster features live music from a variety of visiting and local acts. New Orleans-based funk ensemble 101 Runners specialize in grooving on what they call “Mardi Gras Indian music.” Athens, Ga.-based indie-rock band the Modern Skirts return to Charleston behind the acclaimed album All of Us in Our Night and a new EP titled Gramahawk. Local groove-rock combo Fowler’s Mustache and Charleston-based rock/Americana singer/songwriter Travis Allison open the show. The Shem Creek Duo will provide acoustic tunes as well. The bands will perform in the red-topped pavilion in front of the U.S.S. Yorktown. Music runs from 5-11 p.m.
