Folk fusion. Miami resident Susana Behar has spent years exploring her love of Cuban and Israeli music. For this Spotlight concert, she focuses on Latin American beats. Her sultry and poignant singing tends to have a hypnotic effect on an audience.
Guitar guru. Behar is joined by flamenco guitarist Jose Luis Rodriguez, a veteran composer. He's well known for his collaborations, and he's worked closely with Behar to weave his technically adept tones into her oeuvre.
Hispanic hits. It won't hurt to brush up on your language skills before you see this show. Behar is known for her Ladino ballads (Ladino's an ancient tongue used by Spanish Jews before the Inquisition drove them out) that are lovelorn, funny or both. But don't worry if you're linguistically challenged — you'll get the gist from the singer's smoldering delivery.
