It’s not often that beer and mustaches become fundraising tools, but that’s what’s happening this November — or Movember, we should say. Each year when the chilly month rolls around, men around the world unite in mustache-growing to raise money for prostate and testicular cancer research. Charleston’s got a healthy contingent of men willing to go mustchioed for a good cause, and each year they come together for the Movember kick-off party at the Griffon. “This should be our biggest year yet,” says the Griffon’s Dan Wenz. Guys who decide to put the ’stache in this bash can take advantage of free shaves from Gents Barber Spa while listening to live music, plus great beer from Holy City Brewery, Palmetto Brewing, and New Belgium. “The idea is that you’re supposed to start out with a clean slate, and grow it all month,” says Wenz. “It’s a conversation starter, people ask you why you’re growing a mustache and you can tell them what you’re raising money for.” The Griffon will also donate a dollar from the sale of every beer from the three participating breweries all month long. Remember, this is just the kick-off party — you can see the rest of the Movember events and join the Charleston team by signing up on the Movember website.
