Restaurateur Mo Sussman has turned the beleaguered 200 Meeting Street dining room into a warm center of classic American dining. The room hasn't changed very much since the departure of Upstream, but the food is beautifully served by true professionals in old-style jackets. The mozzarella salad with tiny strips of red pepper is a trendy choice, but the presentation makes a lovely beginning to a meal of masculine cuts of meat, featuring prime cuts of New York strip, ribeye, and filet. There's even a brand-name version of steak and eggs, with Mepkin Abbey eggs and flatiron steak from Snake River Farms. A small selection of seafood makes nice with the lighter eaters, and plenty of the a la carte sides are big enough to share.

It's cozy, it's clubby, it's three stories tall. Chef Brett McKee strikes again with a highfalutin steakhouse on Broad Street that has been the talk of the town all year. Gorgonzola fondue served by the vat kicks off a dinner of great steaks, seafood, and pastas. Don't miss the veal osso buco, and be sure to ask for a marrow spoon. If you're really serious, McKee has a wine locker you can personalize with a brass plaque, for those who literally join the club. For those of us with a little less cash, that fondue makes a pretty nice, light dinner, and there's still good wine to be had by the glass.
