Studio Clearance

When: July 30-Aug. 20 2010

Everyone loves a sale, especially when it involves something that’s notoriously expensive. That’s why art enthusiasts (and those that pretend to be) are sure to be thrilled with 16 Penny Gallery’s studio clearance. The sale begins with an opening event on Friday at 52.5 Records. All artwork, including photography, canvases, and screenprints, will be priced at $50 or less. The sale features more than 60 pieces from more than 20 local artists. The clearance was artist Chuck Keppler’s idea and was brought about by the realization that he needed to clear some space in his new gallery. Keppler discussed the idea with several other local artists and got a very enthusiastic response. “The artists I have spoken to feel that they’d rather have their pieces in somebody’s house, who really enjoys the piece, instead of in a stack in their studio,” Keppler says. The clearance continues through late August. If it’s a success, Keppler plans to host additional sales for all of you penny-pinching art lovers out there. —Kelly Smith
