Style Swap

When: Tue., April 12, 7-9 p.m. 2011

If you want to mix up your wardrobe but don’t want to pay full price, you don’t want to miss this spring’s Style Swap. Jess James, Wilmington’s Style Girl, and Katie Kern of Circa PR present the swap, which asks guests to bring two fashionable items: one gently worn article of clothing (on a hanger) and one accessory. Both designer and vintage items are welcome. James advises those interested to not get intimidated. “The items don’t have to be designer,” she says. “Bring in something you would lend to a friend or something you loved but doesn’t work for you anymore.” Along with the chance to shop for glamorous clothing and accessories, guests can enjoy a mini makeover with Laura Mercier, music by DJ JAZ, sweet treats from local bakeries like Cupcake and Sugar Bake Shop, and a complimentary cocktail from the Renaissance. New to this season’s swap is the “Best of the Swap” contest, where top Charleston stylists like Chelsie Ravenell and Charleston magazine style editor Ayoka Lucas will design an outfit from swap items. So grab that cute top you know you will never wear again and exchange it for something you just have to have.
