When we think of Dia de Los Muertos, the Mexican holiday where the living remember their dead, we think of those kooky-looking skeleton masks that pop up in Mexican restaurants and bars around this time of year. Little did we know that the holiday is also an opportunity to engage in a craft that’s both ghoulish and housewifely: decorated skulls made out of sugar. “It’s similar to cake decorating,” says SpaceCraft Studios’ Allison Merrick. “You use the same tools.” Merrick came up with the idea for the class, but since she’s not a cake decorator herself, she tapped Carla Walker of Carla Bakes to lead the sweetly scary evening. Under her expert tutelage, you’re sure to learn a few tricks that apply to birthday cakes as well as to edible anatomy. And another perk: This class, like many at SpaceCraft, is BYOB.
