Summer Concerts w/ KC & The Sunshine Band, The Village People

When: Sat., July 24 2010

Boone Hall’s summer concert series continues this Saturday evening with some authentic disco/funk from two of the most celebrated party bands of the era. KC & The Sunshine Band and The Village People share the main stage at 1235 Long Point Road in Mt. Pleasant armed with a stack of hit songs from the late ’70s. Led by bandleaders Harry Wayne “KC” Casey and Richard Finch, KC & The Sunshine Band formed in Miami and enjoyed an impressive run of brass-powered disco hits, including “Shake Shake Shake (Shake Your Booty),” “I’m Your Boogieman,” “Keep it Comin’ Love,” and “Boogie Shoes” (which was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Saturday Night Fever). The Village People came together in San Francisco in 1977 clad in costume. Their debut single “San Francisco (You Got Me)” preceded three worldwide smashes — “Macho Man,” “Y.M.C.A.,” and “In the Navy.” The current members include Alexander Briley (“Military G.I.”), David Hodo (“Construction Worker”), Raymond Simpson (“Cop”), Felipe Rose (“Native American”), Jeff Olson (“Cowboy”), and Eric Anzalone (“Biker”). Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and music starts at 7 p.m. —T. Ballard Lesemann
