In 2007 Leslie McCravy was the tragic victim of an abhorrent domestic violence crime, murdered in her own home by a boyfriend who ultimately took his own life. Known by friends for her laughter, her memory is preserved in a benefit for the Lowcountry’s Pet Helpers. Pet Helpers is a private nonprofit adoption center and spray and neuter clinic whose mission is to end the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs.

The benefit, which is in its second year, is 5K run/walk held on Folly Beach, starting and finishing at the Edwin S. Taylor Fishing Pier. Organizers of the memorial benefit have opted to neglect traditional trophies for group winners and instead will be presenting one-night stays in Charleston hotels and complimentary meals to the top three male and female winners.

ABC News 4’s meteorologist Neville Miller was last year’s overall male winner and will be back to defend his victory along with fellow meteorologist Dave Williams.
