Hidden chapters of American history will be uncovered at Patriots Point this week. While you’ve likely read some basic history about the Vietnam War, you probably didn’t know that the U.S. Army’s Special Forces division, the Green Berets formed an alliance with several indigenous tribes while fighting against the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong. Collectively referred to as Montagnards, these tribesmen became our country’s powerful secret allies. Veterans of the United States Army Special Forces will join Montagnard vets for a rare evening of memories and praise for the people who stood by our nation in the midst of Vietnam’s chaos. Discover how a society of people went from half-clothed to fully armed. “This symposium may be one of the only chances for folks in the Lowcountry to ever hear from a Montagnard veteran. These warriors have the most amazing stories from the battlefront, and yet they are rarely ever told,” says Christopher Hauff, the Public Information Officer at Patriots Point, “The stories will be told raw, not through an edited documentary or book.” The Montagnards: The Green Berets’ Secret Vietnam Warriors will be educational and emotional and will honor those under-recognized thousands who gave their lives to fight for what they believed in.
