Our beer scene continues to grow, as evidenced by a new beer tour company that launched here last week. Brews Cruise, Inc. was founded in 2006 in Asheville, N.C., offering tours of various breweries in the area like Pisgah, Highland, and French Broad. In Charleston, they'll be visiting breweries like Westbrook, COAST, Holy City, and Palmetto and brewpubs like Southend and Liberty Tap Room, shuttling tour-goers to each place and giving them a chance to sample and learn.

Each cruise consists of three stops, which vary depending on the day of the week. At the first stop, guests learn the brewing process from grain to glass. At the second, guests are taught about the different styles of beer as well as the brewery's specific styles and history. The third and final stop is a social scene where guests can interact and have a good time.

"We're trying to provide exposure to the beer scene in Charleston," says the Charleston Brews Cruise's Brent Horner. "There is actually very good craft beer around here, and we hope that Charleston will end up on the beer scene map."

The cruise runs Monday through Saturday and is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. each day. It's $45 a person or $80 a couple, and a minimum of four guests is required for the cruise to run. The price includes the transportation, four samples at each brewery, and a souvenir keepsake to take home. Locals with a valid proof of residency and groups of six or more get a 10 percent discount on weekday cruises.
