Taste of Folly

When: Sat., Jan. 24, 12-5 p.m. 2009

You won’t find much more than locals hanging out at Folly Beach this time of year, but Follywooders are hoping to entice the rest of the world to the edge of America this Saturday. The first annual Taste of Folly is intended to highlight local restaurants as well as stimulate the hibernating economy. The City of Folly Beach is closing down Center Street and suspending the open container ban for the event, and most of the restaurants along the strip will be showing off their goods with tapas-style plates for $1 or $2. Food-oriented events throughout the day include a chili cook-off, a hotdog eating contest, an oyster roast, a bake sale, and more. In addition, there will be plenty of kid’s activities and music from the Oscar Rivers Trio and Walkin’ Mike Wolk. —Erica Jackson
