Prime your sails, Charleston, The Atlantic Cup, a biennial offshore race, starts in the Lowcountry this weekend. Racing along the Eastern seaboard, 10 teams of sailors head to New York, and later, Portland Maine, in the only carbon neutral race in the U.S. Say what? A carbon neutral race means that all competitors are required to use an alternative energy source, i.e. solar panels, rather than an engine, during their journey of 1,048 nautical miles. We can jibe with that. The sailors hail from six countries, and one, Tristan Mouligne, is a CofC grad. Cheer on the teams as they take off — the shotgun start is at noon.
