At a new location downtown, the JAC presents a 13-night jazz series during this year's Piccolo Spoleto called Upstairs at McCrady's. A vital part of Piccolo's jazz and blues presentation, the series is a terrific celebration of worldly jazz, soul, and improvisational music. One of the highlights is the final event, featuring an all-star ensemble with special guest drummer Ron Free.
It's truly a homecoming gig
Free happens to be a Charlestonian himself. Now based in Virginia, he first started playing professionally as a teenager in the 1950s before relocating to Manhattan. It's a full-circle stand-out of Piccolo Spoleto's Blues & Jazz series.
In the thick of a vibrant be-bop scene.
Ron Free jammed, recorded, and resided at the famous Loft in lower Manhattan.
