The Cricket Press

When: June 24-July 15 2010

In 2003, Brian and Sara Turner started their screenprinting company, The Cricket Press, out of their home in Lexington, Ky. Seven years — and countless gig posters and event flyers — later, the couple’s process hasn’t changed very much — they still do almost all of their work by hand. “When we are given a poster gig, the art is usually inspired by the band, whether it’s from the lyrics of a song, the feel or theme of their album or their overall persona,” they say via e-mail. Then the Turners hand draw their designs, and they still print all of their work “using only a table (with clamps to hold the screen in place), a squeegee, ink, and our hands.” The Cricket Press has done work for bands like Animal Collective, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and the Decemberists. Their Charleston show takes place at the 16 Penny Gallery in 52.5 Records. They’ll have a variety of brand new and nearly new gig posters and prints on display, ranging in price from $20-$60. —Susan Cohen
