The Dunnan Lego Spectacular

When: Thu., May 27, 5-8 p.m. 2010

Legos. The little plastic building blocks that give you endless possibilities, bringing out the 5-year-old in all of us. Local artist John Dunnan sees the infinite potential of Legos and wants to put them to good use in the community. He’s hosting The Dunnan Lego Spectacular, an event that calls for anyone in Charleston to build a sculpture using only the brightly colored blocks. “I want to encourage creativity in people of all ages,” Dunnan says. As for using only Legos, Dunnan got the idea from making sculptures with his eight-year-old son Mac, who, according to Amanda Cole from the gallery, has created some spectacular models. The deadline for Lego entries (and the $25 entry fee) ends May 26. Entries will be revealed on May 27, and a winner will be chosen for best in show. The creations will be kept on display at the gallery through Spoleto. —Christina Janke
