The Flag Day Burger and Beer Festival

When: Thu., June 14, 5:30 p.m. 2012

Burgers and beer are the definition of summertime, which is why Ho¯M chef Shay MacDonald and his girlfriend Carrie Leverknight are teaming up with some of Charleston’s best burger restaurants and breweries to host the first-ever Flag Day Burger and Beer Festival. In addition to Ho¯M, MacDonald and Leverknight were able to entice Sesame Burgers and Beer, Rita’s Seaside Grille, Moe’s Crosstown, Big Billy’s Burger Joint, and Triangle Char & Bar to fire up their grills, while Holy City Brewery, Coast Brewing Company, Palmetto Brewing Company, and the Westbrook Brewing Company will keep everyone’s mugs full. “Each brewery will be serving $3 pints and the burgers will be ranging between $2 and $4,” says Holy City head brewer and part owner Chris Brown. “We will also have a tasting room open for growlers only, cornhole, and some bluegrass music courtesy of the Bluestone Ramblers.” Leverknight adds, “This is the first time we’re doing something like this, but we’re hoping we can turn this into an annual event. This year will definitely be a learning experience for us.”
